Remembrance Day is right around the corner and the Calgary branch of the Veterans Food Bank of Alberta under increased stress, due to the demand for food bank and financial supports.
Officials say demand for the Veterans Food Band has doubled, and they are now helping 300 Veterans a month instead of the 150 Veterans a month they usually see.
In addition to providing support with food and finances, the Veterans Food Bank will help train vets to improve their skills in civilian life, and in some cases, help get vets off the street.
It is not uncommon to see our Veterans sleeping in shelters and living on the streets.
Without some public assistance the Calgary chapter of the Veterans Food Bank does predict their shelves will be empty by the end of the month.
