City secures Canadian rights to bring X Games to Calgary

The City of Calgary has secured the Canadian rights to the X Games.

It's a four-day event hosted by ESPN and features skiing and snowboarding events including Big Air, Slopestyle and Superpipe with some of the best athletes in the world.

The City is looking to host the International games beginning in late Feb or early March of 2020, 2021, & 2022, depending on if they can secure corporate sponsorship.

It’s estimated that the event could bring in about 75,000 spectators and $75 million annually, while creating 540 jobs annually.

The X Games are also broadcast to an estimated 500 million households in more than 200 countries and territories.

After 10 X Games and six medals, it would be a dream come true to have the opportunity to compete on home snow in Calgary on action sport’s biggest stage. The venues are ideal and I know the Canadian fans would go crazy for this kind of event in our backyard.”
