Plaque unveiling to celebrate traditional Metis land in Medicine Hat

“We want to interpret this area so our community can appreciate the people who settled here before us, their stories and their contributions to our community"

In honour of the city’s history and to celebrate a historical site, the City of Medicine Hat, in partnership with the Miywasin Friendship Centre, will host a plaque unveiling ceremony in an area marking the traditional lands near Saratoga Park.

“This area is significant to the Metis people who first called Medicine Hat home,” said Brenda Mercer with Miywasin Friendship Centre. “This evening will be about sharing memories and stories about Saratoga Park.”

The plaque unveiling ceremony will take place on Thursday at 6 pm, with the public invited to attend.

Parking is available in the two gravel lots located at the bottom of Scholten Hill. Additional parking is available at the Saratoga Dog Park. The ceremony and celebration will take place further down the Saratoga Park Trail in the nearby clearing.
