Katari Right Hand named parade marshal for 2021 virtual Stampede Parade

Right Hand’s Blackfoot name is Nààpiwa otó piim Akikowan, which means Rainbow Girl and as a fancy dancer, her regalia features signature rainbow ribbons.

The 2021 Calgary Stampeded Parade will be a little different this year, and not accept spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic but will still have some familiar traditions.

The parade that kicks off the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth can bring in hundreds of thousands of Stampede-goers along its downtown route, and organizers are hoping that will happen again, albeit virtually.

The parade will still have the floats, marching bands and mounted riders, instead of travelling through downtown, this year's parade will be held on the grounds before opening to the public.

Katari Right Hand, who's from the Siksika Nation is featured on the Stampede poster was also chosen as the 2021 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal.

The parade will be held on July 9th.
