Jyoti Gondek has been declared as Calgary's next mayor, making her the first female to be elected to the office.

As of 9:45 pm Monday, Gondek, the former Ward 3 councillor, had 159,375 votes — a lead of 51,356 votes over her nearest rival, former Ward 11 councillor Jeromy Farkas, who congratulated Calgary's Mayor Elect in a concession speech shortly after 9 p.m.

Gondek says she looks forward to working with the newly elected council and other levels of government.
