Every Child Matters walk and ceremony in Morley

"Last year, nearly 200 people participated in the ceremony and walk and organizers are hopeful for an even bigger turnout this year"


On Friday September 30, There will be a reconciliation walk for Every Child Matters, marking the second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Taking place just west of town at the McDougall Stoney Memorial Church along Highway 1A, the walk will take participants along a closed-down section of the road to the Morley United Church. 

The day is set to begin with a pipe ceremony at 10 a.m. followed by a ceremony featuring stories and prayers from residential school survivors. The walk is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Following the walk, there will be a mini Pow Wow, dances to demonstrate and other games.

Participants are encouraged to wear orange and bring cash to participate in a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds from the draw will go on to fund the organization of the event in 2023. 

COLT will be on hand to provide free transport from the Stoney Tribal Hockey Arena in Morley to McDougall Stoney Memorial Church.

All participants on Friday's Every Child Matters walk and ceremony are encouraged to wear orange.
