Emergency crews working to put out blaze at mushroom farm north of Airdrie

"Everybody is safe, Everyone is evacuated. That was our focus once it started. Right now, the fire departments and emergency services are working on it and that's where we are"

Crossfield and Airdrie fire crews are currently battling a fire at the Highline Mushroom facility, located between the two municipalities just east of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

The fire was reported to emergency crews around 1:30 p.m., and fire departments from Rocky View County, Crossfield, Carstairs and Airdrie responded to the scene alongside EMS and RCMP.

Rocky View County District Fire Chief Dax Huba said the farm’s main operating facility was still on fire after 3 p.m., as crews were unable to extinguish the blaze.

Police say there is still no indication what had caused the blaze.

Highline Mushroom employs about 300 workers at the Crossfield facility.
