City of Lethbridge seeking Indigenous artists for commemoration project

​The City has extended the deadline for applications from Indigenous artists for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a commemoration project.

Applications are being sought to facilitate a community engagement process in support of a commemoration initiative centered around Residential School Survivors and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Peoples.

The successful artist will conduct community engagement on the commemoration initiative and present recommendations on how it should be undertaken.

The desired outcome of the Indigenous Legacy Commemoration Project is to honor victims, survivors, and their families. The successful artist will aim to gather a deeper understanding of the community's expectations for commemoration while increasing the public visibility and representation of Blackfoot and the other Indigenous peoples who call Lethbridge home.

The City of Lethbridge is committed to reconciliation and fostering strong relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities, founded on respect and shared understanding of history. This project is a joint initiative of the City's Reconciliation Lethbridge Advisory Committee, Public Art Program and Indigenous Relations Office.

The deadline for artist submissions is now March 24, 2023 and more information including eligibility, timelines and budget can be found here.
