Alberta law enforcement investigating claims of intentionally wasted vaccine appointments

A system is in place to prevent Albertans from making more than one booking online or through 8-1-1

Alberta Health Services says they are aware of recent social media posts claiming false vaccine bookings were made with the intention of clogging the system. These posts have since been brought to the attention of law enforcement.

One tweet showed a screenshot of a confirmed appointment at a vaccination centre, the author then said they planned to spoil the vaccine rather than give it to someone else.

AHS says there hasn't been a significant increase in appointment no shows and more than 1,300 Alberta pharmacies have been notified about these social media posts.

As of Monday, AHS said there have been 2,593 vaccine refusals, including people who booked an appointment and for reasons which include fear of needles or not wanting the vaccine offered to them have declined the shot.

More than 50 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and up have received at least one dose of vaccine, and seven per cent are now considered fully immunized after receiving their second dose.
