Ribbon skirts and shawls are a historical and traditional form of identity
among Indigenous women.

More Information (CJWE is not responsible for external websites)

Learning to construct one for yourself is honouring Métis women’s heritage and culture. Each time we put on our skirt or shawl, we are reminded of the roles of women in Métis traditional culture. We are reminded of how to honour and protect ourselves, and how to carry ourselves. Ribbon skirts and shawls come in different colours and hold different meanings to the women who wear them.

Participants of this intermediate class are welcome to bring their own
materials – please refer to materials list, or purchase a package from
Métis Crossing. Please indicate dress size when you register.
