Rick was born in Tofield, AB , the 8th of 9 children to Metis parents, who originally are from Meadow Lake, SK. Rick grew up in Devon, AB, where there was no cable TV, so there was nothing to do but play hockey and listen to the radio. The radio bug bit Rick at an early age and his radio career included stops in Calgary, Moose Jaw, Prince George, and Edmonton. After careers in sales, IT, and owner of a retail business, the opportunity to get back into the radio business and join Windspeaker Radio was too good to pass up. If his parents were still alive, they would be so excited about him on Windspeaker Radio and happily share their knowledge of the Cree language and family history growing up Metis. When Rick is not on the air, he spends time with his wife of 25 years, Heather, and his dog, Milo, while keeping tabs on his grown up sons, Grady and Nolan.
