Red Deer Hosts the 2019 Canada Winter Games

On Friday night, the opening ceremonies of the 2019 Canada Winter Games kick off in Red Deer.

CEO Scott Robinson says that the two hour ceremony will be a “celebration of moments.

"An opening ceremony is about creating moments that are impactful and mean something to the community, mean something to the athletes and mean something to the broader audience,”

The event will feature 500 performers, showcasing what “Red Deer and central Alberta are all about and will be true to our roots,”

The opening ceremony will include a parade of athletes from across the country and the lighting of the games cauldron.  The production company behind the scenes have also staged CFL Grey Cup halftime shows since 2010, the Invictus Games, the 2010 Paralympic Games and the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Red Deer, Alberta, will host the 14th edition of the Canada Winter Games February 15 until March 3.
