Traffic comes to a stop on Highway 1A due to grass fire

Rocky View County Fire crews are on scene west of Cochrane as a grass fire is burning and continues to grow.

On Thursday afternoon, the fire was burning between the Ghost Station Gas Bar and the Wild Cat Gas Plant.

Traffic has come to a stop on Highway 1A between Cochrane and Highway 40, one collision has been reported in the region and RCMP say poor visibility likely contributed to the crash.

Cochrane RCMP has been called to assist with the grass fire, which is blazing along Highway 1A, about 52 kilometres west of Calgary. As of Thursday afternoon, two residences, as well as the Ghost Station Camping and Storage gas bar and the Wildcat Hills Gas Extraction Plant have been evacuated.

RCMP say the fire is spreading eastward and two residences, the gas bar and the gas plant have been evacuated as a preacutionary measure.
