St. Albert to rename arena in honour of Jarome Iginla

Iginla, his family and members of the St. Albert city council will be on hand for the renaming ceremony on Sunday Aug. 25 which will include a free barbeque, public skate and street hockey game.



The Akinsdale arena in St. Albert will be renamed after hockey great Jarome Iginla.

The former Calgary Flame, Pittsburgh Penguin, Boston Bruin, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles King will be honoured at an event on Sunday for the renaming.

Iginla played more than 1,500 games in the NHL spanning over a 20-year career.

He retired in 2017 and his #12 jersey was retired earlier this year.

Iginla grew up in St. Albert, playing minor hockey for the St. Albert Eagle Raiders.

The ceremony gets underway at 1pm at 66 Hebert Road
