Grammy award winning singer John Prine cancels Alberta shows due to health issues

Prine has had a significant influence on singer-songwriters for nearly 50 years, having influenced everyone from icons like Bob Dylan to current A-list singer-songwriters such as Jason Isbell and Margo Price.

American folk legend John Prine has postponed upcoming shows in the U.S. and Canada, including Banff, Edmonton and Calgary.

Management for Prine confirm he’s undergoing heart surgery this week and has been forced to postpone all of his summer dates.

The two-time Grammy Award winner was booked to play at the Shaw Amphitheatre in Banff,  the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary and at the Edmonton Folk Festival Aug. 11.

Festival management says they are working to find a replacement act, but say it might be difficult given the lateness of the news.
