2nd Annual Western Canada Pond Hockey Championships return to Chestemere Lake

“Expect old-time hockey. The good old days of playing under the sky, and playing pond hockey,”

If you like a good old game of shinny on an outdoor rink, visit Chestermere this week and take in the annual Western Canada Pond Hockey Championships.

For the second year in a row, the city of Chestermere will play host to the Tim Hortons Western Canada Pond Hockey Championships, on the lake at Chestermere December 27 to 29th.

The pond hockey championships are open to all ages, and this year they will feature ringette as well.

Divisions include Tyke, Novice, Ringette, Adult Rec and Beer League.

Two Olympic athletes, gold medalist of the Canada national hockey team Meaghan Mikkelson, and gold medalist of the Canada national curling team Ben Hebert are joining the Pond Hockey Championships on Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers ask those who attend to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Chestermere Food Bank.
